The Eastman K-4 ULTRAlight Carbonfiber Case is one of our lightest cases, and it is a full-suspension case, meaning that no part of the cello is in direct contact with the outer shell of the instrument at any time. The cello is held in place by molded foam padding. The case is slim but has more interior room than the or BAM Slim case and can fit Eastman Montagnana cellos such as the Rainer Leonhardt.

The outside is waterproof, and the outfit includes a hygrometer for monitoring interior humidity. The case also features two bow holders and an accessory compartment.

Note that this cello comes with sturdy backpack straps but does not have any wheels. We strongly recommend also purchasing a set of security cables.

The K-4 case comes in the following colors, all of which come with a black velvet interior:

• Matte Black Carbon

Eastman cases are normally readily available in all colors, but if a color is not shown in stock there will normally be a 2-4 day lead time. If a color is not available at the factory, you can expect a wait of up to 3 months.

Carbon Case Caution - If you are shopping for a case that is going to be sturdy, rugged and secure, light-weight carbon fiber cases may disappoint you. Although they are indeed sturdy and secure, there are certain things about these cases that every shopper needs to be aware of. Carbon fiber cases are very light because the carbon fiber is tougher than other materials, therefore, the case body itself is not very thick. This creates a few issues that you need to be aware of before purchasing:

• When open, Carbon fiber cases have quite a bit of flex and it takes some care to line up the top and bottom correctly before latching. However, when closed, they are very rigid.
• Standing a carbon fiber case on end with your cello in it (case either opened or closed) is NOT recommended because of the slim profile and light weight. It would take just a slight bump to unbalance it and knock it over.
• The less expensive the carbon fiber case is, the more issues you will have with it. Like all other things, you get what you pay for.
• Less expensive carbon fiber cases tend to have more issues with fit and finish, including hardware failures, durability, and padding.
